2009-09-13staging-specs: Prepare to generate kernel DocBook treeMauro Carvalho Chehab
From: Mauro Carvalho Chehab <mchehab@redhat.com> Add a make docbooks target to generate DocBooks at kernel tree and add media- prefix to entities.xml and indexes.xml Priority: normal Signed-off-by: Mauro Carvalho Chehab <mchehab@redhat.com>
2009-09-13staging-specs: Add a staging tree for Documentation/DocBookMauro Carvalho Chehab
From: Mauro Carvalho Chehab <mchehab@redhat.com> This patch basically copies V4L and DVB DocBook specs into a single file, under a temporary staging tree. This is meant to add the set of V4L/DVB API specifications at Linux Kernel. For now, it just renames the *sgml files to *xml and creates a common body for both API's, dividing them into two parts. Later patches will add some glue for the two specs, move IR to a common part (since IR keycodes are common to both API's) and add it into linux/Documentation/DocBook. Comments and reviews are welcome. Priority: normal Signed-off-by: Mauro Carvalho Chehab <mchehab@redhat.com>

2009-08-31v4l2-spec: convert it to use DocBook XML 4.1.2Mauro Carvalho Chehab
From: Mauro Carvalho Chehab <mchehab@redhat.com> DocBook XML 4.1.2 is the docbook dialect spoken at Linux kernel. By using it, we can now consider adding V4L2 API docs at the kernel tree. As a bonus, added support for xmlto, with seems to be better supported nowadays. Another additional bounus is that two new Makefile targets were added: make man - Create V4L2 API man pages make man_install - Install V4L2 API man pages By allowing the addition of V4L2 manpages, it is now easier for developer to quickly check about a V4L2 API or libv4l2 call syntax and expected return values. 2009-08-16Document libv4l at V4L2 API specsMauro Carvalho Chehab
From: Mauro Carvalho Chehab <mchehab@redhat.com> Since applications aren't prepared to handle all V4L2 available formats, an effort is done to have a library capable of understanding especially the proprietary formats. This patch documents this library, and adds v4l2grab.c as an example on how to use it. Parts of the text are based at the libv4l README file (c) by Hans de Goede. Thanks to Hans de Goede <hdegoede@redhat.com> for his good work with libv4l. Priority: normal Signed-off-by: Mauro Carvalho Chehab <mchehab@redhat.com>
2009-06-30v4l2grab: Add an userspace application for webcam testing, using libv4l2Mauro Carvalho Chehab
From: Mauro Carvalho Chehab <mchehab@redhat.com> During FISL 10 (Forum Internacional de Software Livre) and the first FudCon Latam (Fedora Users and Developers Conference), while preparing the V4L panel, I and Douglas noticed the need of a very simple application to be an example for developers to test their drivers and to write newer v4l2 applications. So, we come to the idea of creating a v4l2grab application that takes pictures from the webcam and saves them with the ppm format, using libv4l to work with all webcam models. This application uses the absolute minimum of V4L2 calls to take 640x480 pictures, and was tested with uvcvideo and vivi drivers. Signed-off-by: Mauro Carvalho Chehab <mchehab@redhat.com>

2008-07-18Prepare to allow firmware out-of-tree firmware compilationMauro Carvalho Chehab
From: Mauro Carvalho Chehab <mchehab@infradead.org> This patch synchronizes the firmware hex files from Kernel and starts to prepare to allow firmware compilation at the out-of-tree driver. Yet, some work need to be done to make it work. Signed-off-by: Mauro Carvalho Chehab <mchehab@infradead.org>

move rds-saa6588.c from v4l_experimental to v4l2-apps/util From: Mauro Carvalho Chehab <mchehab@infradead.org> rds-saa6588 is, in fact, a test utility, not a driver. Move it to the proper place and add a proper Makefile. Signed-off-by: Mauro Carvalho Chehab <mchehab@infradead.org>
2007-10-03build: update .hgignore fileTrent Piepho
From: Trent Piepho <xyzzy@speakeasy.org> .hgignore uses regexs, not filename globs. Most needed a '$' at the end, so something like v4l/Kconfig (ignored) didn't match v4l/Kconfig.sound (not ignored). Adjust "v4l/.*\.h" do it doesn't ignore v4l/compat.h and v4l/i2c-compat.h. Ignore .patch and .diff files. Combine some .o and .a regexs. Add new regexs for new test and util binaries. 2006-05-07fix ability to pass compile-time build options when building from the hg repoMichael Krufky
From: Michael Krufky <mkrufky@linuxtv.org> When building in-kernel, compile-time build options are passed into the compiler using '#include <linux/config.h>' . This file #include's <linux/autoconf.h> , which is created on the fly by the kbuild system. However, this does not work correctly when building from the mercurial repository, since the kernel is built indepentently of v4l/.myconfig This creates a "config-compat.h", which will be #include'd by compat.h and will emulate <linux/config.h> for the local build. 2006-04-07Big changes at v4l-dvb make internal workingMauro Carvalho Chehab
From: Mauro Carvalho Chehab <mchehab@infradead.org> Previously, tree building were based on Make.config. This file contained all compiling stuff. Also, v4l/Makefile contained all drivers that should be copiled, replicating the rules of all other Makefiles under linux. Now, make will rely on linux/*/Makefile to compile the modules. This approach allows usage of Kconfig files, allowing partial compilations. Newer makefile commands introduced: make allmodconfig - Selects all stuff to be compiled as module; make config - Selects packages via text interface; make xconfig - Selects packages via qt interface; make gconfig - selects packages via gtk interface. for config, xconfig and gconfig to be used, those scripts needs to be previously compiled at kernel. So, user needs to use those commands previously at kernel tree. Signed-off-by: Mauro Carvalho Chehab <mchehab@infradead.org>
2006-03-26Some cleanups at make xconfigMauro Carvalho Chehab
From: Mauro Carvalho Chehab <mchehab@infradead.org> Now, it doesn't depend on kernel Kconfig stuff: - It generates a Kconfig.kern based on unsolved dependencies. - It assumes that all needed dependencies were compiled as module. Only Multimedia tree is showed to the user. To work, user should have runned xconfig before at the normal kernel tree. Signed-off-by: Mauro Carvalho Chehab <mchehab@infradead.org>
2006-02-06Included hg ignore fileMauro Carvalho Chehab
From: Mauro Carvalho Chehab <mchehab@infradead.org> All .c files at v4l dir, object files, and temporary ones will be ignored by hg. Now, hg status will work properly. Signed-off-by: Mauro Carvalho Chehab <mchehab@infradead.org>
