Bug #322
closedNo subtitles on VDR 1.7.14

Description
Hi,
I patched VDR 1.7.14 with the new version of the patch set, which applies just fine, but no subtitles are shown. The same with the vdr-1.7.14-ttxtsubs.patch. VDR 1.7.13 with the appropriate patch set works well.
I also tried the new burn plugin version 0.2.0, which lets users select subtitles that are to be included in the dvd. In the selection screen it shows the page number for ttxtsubs, and for my set up those are off by 46. Instead of 299, 499, 699 etc that are used by Canal+, it shows 253, 453 and 653. Perhaps that has something to do with the problem I am reporting?

Forget that part about burn plugin. It seems that it doesn't work with VDR 1.7.13 either. But otherwise the problem is real.

Please test the latest Git version. I just forgot to push my last commit. (There was an issue with systems having a FF card.)

Thanks, but no help yet, though now I can see the subtitles in old recordings, which didn't work with the earlier try. This is how it looks like in the logs with both 1.7.13 (ttxtsubs git from about two weeks ago) and 1.7.14 (current git):

Mmm...I have no idea yet, what's going wrong there. I'll take a closer look tomorrow. Meanwhile you can apply the attached patch, which will add some more dsyslog messages, It would be nice, if you could test this and attach the log.

Perhaps I should clarify, that I ave two budget cards and xineliboutput as the output device (primary?).

That's ok. With a budget-only system the VDR patch will pass the teletext data to the plugin. But as far as I can see from your log excerpt, cPluginTtxtsubs::PlayerTeletextData is never called. That means something is going wrong with the VDR patch. You have applied he latest patch from the Git to 1.7.14, haven't you?
Updated by phelin over 14 years ago
Yes, I have applied it as follows:

I assume that the patch set is the same as vdr-1.7.14-ttxtsubs.patch, just divided in to separate parts.

Yes. I've split the patch into "logical" chunks to make maintenance easier and hopefully convince Klaus to add at least some parts to VDR.
I've just tested the current Git version with Xineliboutput again and it's working fine here. Please apply the attached patch to VDR on top of the ttxtsubs patch. It add's a little bit of debugging output to the syslog and stderr, so we can see, if VDR finds the teletext subtitle pages and if it passed the tpid stream to the plugin.

It seems that PlayTs() isn't called at all or it doesn't find the TPid in PlayTs. Here's another patch with even more syslog output (this might cause a lot of syslog messages, so you might want to remove the patch after testing it.)
If possible, please attach the full source of the patched VDR and plugins as you use them, so I can compile and test exactly the same version as you. Please also include the setup.conf and channels.conf.

My whole source + channels.conf and setup.conf. The confs are in dir vdr-1.7.14-etobi/CONF. In vdr-1.7.14-etobi/PATCH you can find the patches that I have applied to the source.

I think there's a 5 MB limit in Redmine, so you might need to upload it to e.g. duckload.com.
According to your log PlayTs gets called and it finds a Tpid in the PMT but doesn't receive any Tpid data. Maybe we just wasted a lot of time, because I really should update the README and the TROUBLSHOOTING. Have you enabled the teletext support in Setup/DVB? This setting was introduced in version 0.2.0 and is disabled by default.

Bloody hell. I am truly sorry for wasting your time (well, as well my own). I really hadn't turned on the ttxt support in VDR's DVB menu. Didn't even have the slightest idea that such a setting existed. It feels like a bit out of place and in contradiction with the settings in the plugin's own menu. The version I successfully had used with VDR 1.7.13 was from 14.3.2010 and with it ttxt subs worked though I hadn't touched that setting (I assume the setting being SupportTeletext, which I still have as 0 for 1.7.13).
Anyway, I am glad this got solved and appreciate your help.

It was only mentioned in the HISTORY and probably in the announcment on the ML.
Note to myself: Update the f***ing README! #323
BTW: Christian already talked to me about the burn-Plugin issue - it seems burn just calculates the wrong decimal page number from the BCD encoded magazine/page fields, so this should be fixed soon too.
